iPhone 3G

June 9, 2008 · Leave a Comment

As though you did not see it coming. Apple 3G iPhone has been launched and you can expect a whole host of new features(rumors sites look to have gotten much of it right) or can you? 3G networking, GPS (Tom Tom) + guided maps, 3rd party applications, global rollout… my favorite feature is the flush headphne jack.

8GB will start at 199$USD/16GB 299$USD. They will be out July 11th.

Phone Arena Review enV2

May 15, 2008 · Leave a Comment

PhoneArena has a deep review of the new LG enV2 mobile phone for Verizon Wireless. The phone is the latest upgrade of the enV mobile phone that was released last year. It is targeted to the consumer who is looking for a small gadget with a full QWERTY keyboard. Here is the conclusion.

We are highly impressed with the overall improvements that have been made with the new enV2. It features a more modern and simplistic design with less bulk and more streamlined appearance, larger front dialpad, redesigned QWERTY keypad, larger internal display, 2MP camera, stereo speakers, and supports microSD cards up to 8GB; with the only thing missing here is an HTML browser and an Autofocus system for the camera. We recommend it for anyone that is looking for a reasonably priced phone with excellent call quality and reception, while also requiring a built in QWERTY keypad and other useful features. We also believe that the enV2 is a better device for text messaging when compared to the Samsung Alias U740, due to the fact its QWERTY keypad is rather small, since the buttons cramped together, which causes frequent typing errors. However, for those looking for a higher-end device, the Voyager is the way to go. It has almost every feature one could want, including a full 2.8” touchscreen on the front, secondary display on the inside with QWERTY keypad, stereo speakers, and Mobile TV support.

5 Things You Never Knew Your Cell Phone Could Do

March 25, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Emergency

1. The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobiles is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

Have you locked your keys in the car?

2. Does your car have remote keyless entry? This may come in handy someday. Good reason to own a cell phone: If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call someone at home on their cell phone from your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from your car door and have the person at your home press the unlock button, holding it near the mobile phone on their end. Your car will unlock. Saves someone from having to drive your keys to you. Distance is no object. You could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can reach someone who has the other “remote” for your car, you can unlock the doors (or the trunk).

Hidden Battery Power

3. Imagine your cell battery is very low. To activate, press the keys *3370# Your cell will restart with this reserve and the instrument will show a 50% increase in battery. This reserve will get charged when you charge your cell next time.

How to disable a STOLEN mobile phone?

4. To check your Mobile phone’s serial number, key in the following digits on your phone: * # 0 6 # A 15 The igit code will appear on the screen. This number is u nique to your handset. Write it down and keep it somewhere safe. When your phone get stolen, you can phone your service provider and give them this code.

They will then be able to block your handset so even if the thief changes the SIM card, your phone will be totally useless. You probably won’t get your phone back, but at least you know that whoever stole it can’t use/sell it either. If everybody does this, there would be no point in people stealing mobile phones.

Free Directory Service for Cells

5. Cell phone companies are charging us $1.00 to $1.75 or more for 411 information calls when they don’t have to. Most of us do not carry a telephone directory in our vehicle, which makes this situation even more of a problem. When you need to use the 411 information option, simply dial: (800) FREE 411, or (800) 373-3411 without incurring any charge at all. Program this into your cell phone now.

Mobile Phones Are The New Boarding Passes

March 20, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Mobile phones as boarding passes.

With 80% of travelers using electronic check-ins, airports & airlines are looking for other areas to implement technology to speed up boarding times. The New York Times points to a test by Continental where their customers can pass through security and board their planes by flashing their mobile phones. Security and airline staff can scan barcodes that are displayed on a phone in the same way they scan paper passes today. The NY Times reports:

The mobile check-in may well be the first step in direct communications between airlines and passengers as they travel. Ultimately, Henry H. Harteveldt, a vice president with Forrester Research, said he expected airlines would use mobile messaging to communicate with passengers about on-board services, rebooking options, baggage pickup and ticket purchases.

“It’s clear that mobile is the gateway to how airlines will interact with their customers in the future for almost anything,” he said.

…As mobile devices become more sophisticated and applications for smaller screens evolve, airlines expect passengers will be able to use their phones, BlackBerrys and other mobile devices for a growing number of services, like rebooking a ticket after a missed connection, switching seats, checking standby status or seeking an upgrade.

“We kind of like the idea long term of having a kiosk in your pocket,” said Mark Bergsrud, senior vice president for marketing programs and distribution with Continental.

New Apple Iphone Clam Shell

March 18, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The picture above is a drawing based on a device described in a recent Apple’s patent application, called “Dual sided trackpad“. It seems that the company plans to release a clamshell version of iPhone in the future.

In a closed position, this clamshell becomes an ordinary slate tablet computer, with a multi-touch touchscreen. However, if you open the flip to up-to 160 degree angle, it becomes a normal laptop computer.

Wood Pannel Cell

January 28, 2008 · Leave a Comment

This retro cell phone that features wood paneling and an external remote that controls the functions of the phone, kinda like the devices at your grandma’s house. But, unlike granny’s wood paneling, this phone is actually kind of cool, if you don’t mind the inconvenience of an external remote. We’d tell you which novelty store to get it from, except it’s only a concept phone from the great minds at Yanko Design.
